About Us
Receiving a diagnosis of cancer can be frightening and confusing. To help you and your family better understand the treatment options available to you, members of ASTRO, the American Society for Radiation Oncology, created this Web site to explain how doctors use radiation therapy to treat cancer safely and effectively.
The information on this site was created by physicians and other members of the radiation oncology team with expertise in radiation therapy and on the topic presented. However, this material is informational only and should not be used in place of advice from a medical professional. If you have questions about a specific treatment, please ask your radiation oncologist.
This site contains very little information on the use of surgery, chemotherapy and other treatments as our physicians are generally not experts in these areas. We encourage you to talk to other specialists, where appropriate, about other treatments you are considering.
Each section of the site was created by radiation oncologists and other radiation oncology team members with expertise on the topics presented. However, these materials are informational only and should not be used in place of advice from a medical professional. If you have any questions about a specific treatment, please ask your radiation oncologist.
ASTRO would like to thank the radiation oncologists, radiation oncology nurses and other radiation oncology treatment team members who provided their time and technical expertise on these patient materials. We would also like to thank our Partners in Public Awareness Task Force for providing photos and supporting our efforts.
Although this information is updated regularly, ASTRO makes no representations or warranties about the suitability of this information for use for any particular purpose. All information is provided "as is" without express or implied warranty.
